The Integrated Protection Module (IPM) is a device which protects the subscriber lines and the exchange equipment from high voltage and current surges. The elements of the Module (3-pole Discharge tube and Thermistors mounted on a printed circuit board and provided with the necessary contacts) are housed in a plastic case. For the Single Pair Protection Module to give the desired protection., it is necessary to correctly insert the Earth Bar (normally supplied at the rate of one Earth Bar for every ten Single Pair Protection Modules) ~ no the Line-side Disconnection Module mounted on the Distribution Frame in the exchange. The Earth Bar makes contact with the Back Mount Frame ( on which the Line-side Disconnection Modules are mounted) which again is effectively earthed by means of Earth Strips connected to the exchange Earth The Single Pair Protection Modules are so designed that they can be inserted in only one position which ensures that, in case of high voltage and current surges, the incoming line is totally isolated from the exchange equipment, thus protecting the exchange equipment. The figure at reverse gives a general idea of how the Single Pair Protection Module is to be inserted into the Line-side Disconnection Module. If the Single Pair Protection Module is inserted properly, protection is assured and mistakes cannot occur. In the event of any failure of the Single Pair Protection Module , it can be dismantled and the faulty element can be replaced. Normally such an eventuality does not occur.

During the mounting of this Single Pair Protection Module to the 10 pair slim disconnection module there is no need to    mount on external mount bar. Since the earth bar is a integral part of the 10 pair/10 pair disconnection module. Hence the    Single Pair Protection Module can be directly inserted/mounted on the 10 pair/10 pair disconnection module for the    necessary protection
